The Seattle Times published this article about the tolling company today (7/29/2019). It reveals just how overly complex tolling is and why it is so expensive to operate.
The tolling company that is trying to toll Highway 99 Tunnel is the same company that is managing tolling on I-405 Express Toll Lanes #405ETL. That company has made MILLIONS OF BILLING ERRORS on I-405 that have been reported (see this blog article for links).
Over 2 years ago WSDOT was issued a directive by the House Transportation Committee to replace the company (Dallas-based ETAN) handling the tolling. Clearly that never happened and they are even doing more contracts with them. This further illustrates WSDOT’s incompetence and it really brings into question in my mind if there might be some personal financial gain involved? I don’t know, but I think it is worthy of investigation. Thanks to Mike Lindblom and Mike Siegel for your article/photo.
