Recurring problem: people are being charged even when they don’t use the Express Toll Lanes

Here is a news article from King 5 News reporting on a man who was getting billed for using the 405ETL even though he cancelled the license plate 9 years ago. It was a case of their equipment misreading the plate and billing the wrong person. Sad that he had to get King 5 involved to get the charges reversed.

There have been others who reported being charged when driving in the lane adjacent to the ETL.  And there is potential for many other erroneous charges that drivers will have to contact WSDOT and try to get reversed, like when their pass isn’t read and they get charged by mail along with an extra $2 fee.
